2/28/11- Alien Ant Farm- "Movies"

Since I didn't post any videos over the weekend, and since the Oscars were this weekend, I decided to dig up a movie double feature of the same song. If that made any sense.

Back in 2001, Alien Ant Farm released a video for their song "Movies" and it was pretty low budget. After they released "Movies" they hit #1 with their cover of "Smooth Criminal." The record label decided to re-release "Movies," sensing it could still be a hit, and they did a new music video for it, this time, with a.. slightly larger budget.

For today, enjoy both versions of "Movies!"

2/25/11- The Parlotones- "Push Me To The Floor"

They've outsold Coldplay and Oasis. Combined. In their home country of South Africa, that is. They've played in front of more than 1 Billion people as part of the FIFA World Cup Kick off last year too. And they won the 2010 South African version of the Grammy (SAMA) for best video for this song too. Not too shabby. Now they're trying to conquer the United States.

The band is called the Parlotones, and they've been around for a while, but their latest album, "Stardust Galaxies" is gathering attention in the states. It helps that they have stellar songs like this one on it. Enjoy "Push Me to the Floor" by the Parlotones!

2/24/11- Chiddy Bang- The Opposite of Adults

The 2011 MTVu Woodie Award Nominees are out, which are basically the VMA's for Hipsters. But I keep an eye on them each year since there is some decent music featured there, but also, because my old college radio station, 92 WICB won the first ever "College Radio Woodie" and they're nominated again this year.

Scrolling through the other nominees, I noticed a video I was introduced to over a year ago nominated for the "Video Woodie." If you're a fan of MGMT, or really good sampling... you will like this one. Enjoy "The Opposite of Adults" from Chiddy Bang.

2/23/11- Blue October- "Dirt Room"

Too much guyliner. Seriously. But if you can overlook that, Blue October puts out some damn good music, and probably would have faded into obscurity if it wasn't for their song "Hate Me" propelling them into some rock-stardom.

For today, I present their song "Dirt Room," a video that would probably have been banned by MTV for being too violent or something. You know, if MTV actually played music videos.

2/22/11- Adele- "Rolling in the Deep"

I didn't expect to hear much more from Adele after she won the Grammy for Best New Artist a few years back. Usually, that Grammy is a curse that few artists can get past. (OK, the Beatles, The Carpenters, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, and Maroon 5 have done well after winning), but many times, an artist instantly falls into "One Hit Wonder" status, which is why I hoped the Bieber thing won so he'd fall off the face of the earth.

The fact that Adele is back with an amazing album "21" AND the fact that Alternative radio is randomly picking up her song, (yes, the same radio stations that once though Limp Bizkit and Disturbed were "Alternative") is pretty amazing.

Check out "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele!

2/21/11- The Presidents of the United States of America- "Peaches"

Cliche "presidents" music video for Presidents Day? Check. That's all I have to say!

Enjoy a classic in "Peaches" by the Presidents of the USA. LOOKOUT!

2/20/11- Smashing Pumpkins- "1979" and "Perfect"

Missed posting a video yesterday with a lot of stuff going on, so I figured let's pull a double today.

The Smashing Pumpkins were Grammy Nominated, and won an MTV VMA for the video for "1979," which was basically supposed to be a day in the life of suburban kids. Two years later, when the Pumpkins made a video for their song "Perfect," they decided to make it a follow-up to "1979" featuring the same kids in the "1979" video, now grown older.
Enjoy today's double feature, from the Smashing Pumpkins, it's "1979" and "Perfect"

2/18/11- Foo Fighters- ""Long Road To Ruin"

Dave Grohl can do no wrong. That I am sure of. And some of my favorite Foo Fighters videos are the ones where the band gets into character mode. Hands down the best is the "Learn to Fly" video, but they followed up with the video for "Long Road To Ruin" as well, and it's pretty damn cool.

So enjoy some Foo Fighters for today's Music Video a Day!

2/17/11- Simply Red- "Holding Back The Years"

I'm realizing I haven't dipped into the 80s that much for the Music Video blog, so I decided to change that... with some super-sappy 80s music.

I know for some, this will be a guilty pleasure. For others, they'll want to kill me for posting this. Either way... let's go back to 1986, with Simply Red! Here's "Holding Back The Years"

2/16/11- The Temper Trap- "Love Lost"

Take an Australian band, add in a British P.E. Class with out of shape kids, and you have an oddly choreographed music video. That's what the Temper Trap did for their song "Love Lost." I don't think this was ever released to radio here in the States, to follow up "Sweet Disposition" or "Fader," but hopefully it will push you to pick up their stellar album "Conditions."

Enjoy "Love Lost" by The Temper Trap

2/15/11- Stabbing Westward- "Shame"

Yesterday, a buddy of mine from college commented on a previous Video I posted from Black Lab, saying he was digging the band's music. I also know he is a HUGE Stabbing Westward fan, so, I dug up one of their videos for today.

It looks like your typical Mid-90s Rock video... and is a pretty decent 4 minute horror flick basically.

Enjoy "Shame" by Stabbing Westward

2/14/11- Anberlin- "Paperthin Hymn"

I looked at what today was, and I figured, I COULD do a Valentine's Day themed Video a Day, or I could even do a Grammy Winner Video a Day. And I decided against both. Why? ::shrug:: Dunno. But I still have an awesome video for today.

Anberlin broke onto the scene in 2003 with their major label debut album "Blueprints for The Black Market," which I liked and was a solid album. It was their 2005 follow-up "Never Take Friendship Personal" that made me truly a fan of this band, as the album is just chock full of catchy-as-hell radio-friendly music.

So for the Music Video today, enjoy "A Day Late" from Anberlin!

2/13/11- The Crash Motive- "Not Giving Up"

If you were lucky enough to have been introduced to the music of The Crash Motive, it was either because you heard them on Madden '07, or you heard their song "Waiting" on the Fantastic Four soundtrack when they were known as Omnisoul.

They signed to Wind-Up Records, and in 2007, they released their major label debut album, "Consequence." It is chock-full of Pop-Rock friendly sounding radio hits, but never really caught on. The band released a follow-up EP, and sadly, disbanded after. Lead singer Derek Fuhrmann has been working on some solo material that I have yet to hear.

From Madden '07, enjoy the one (pretty cheesy) music video The Crash Motive made. It's "Not Giving Up"

2/12/11- Sugarcult- "Stuck in America"

Nothing special for today's Music Video a Day. So I took to my iPod, put it on shuffle, and decided to post the first song that came up that I could find a video for. That would be the first song I played.

"Stuck in America" from Sugarcult had a slow start at radio when it was released, mainly because it came out around the same time as 9/11. They eventually found success with their follow-up single "Bouncing off the Walls" when it was featured in the movie "Van Wilder."

Enjoy "Stuck in America" by Sugarcult!

2/11/11- Hellogoodbye- "Here in Your Arms"

Pogs??? In a music video? Why not? When Hellogoodbye released "Here In Your Arms" back in 2007 on their album "Zombies, Aliens, Vampires, Dinosaurs!" it seemed like they tried to throw in as many 90's references as possible. See if you can pick them all up!

2/10/11- Black Lab- "Time Ago"

Back in the spring and summer of 1998, two stations in Philly, Y100 and Max 95.7 (both of which sadly, no longer exist) were battling it out for a piece of the poppy-alternative audience, and this song, they both played nearly to death. I didn't mind though, as I loved it, and still do. I wore out the tape (yes, I started with a cassette) and am on my second CD. And since then, then band has released several AMAZING albums without a record label, and I'll definitely post some of their self-made music videos as well.

For now, from their album "Your Body Above Me," enjoy "Time Ago," by Black Lab!

2/9/11- Ludo- "Hum Along"

I first stumbled upon Ludo when they released their major label debut album "You're Awful, I Love You." It was a masterpiece of Stalker-esque love songs that made me greatly look forward to their follow up album. Then they released "Prepare The Preparations." And I was insanely disappointed. So I dug into their back catalog and found some better stuff.

This is from their self titled album, and is perfectly stalkerish. Enjoy "Hum Along" by Ludo.

2/8/11- Atomic Tom- "Take Me Out"

OK. So this video has been out for a while (and apparently amassed 4 million views on YouTube before Vevo took over. And the video explains it well. The band had their instruments stolen, so they improvised.

Enjoy "Take Me Out" by Atomic Tom!

2/7/11- Fitz & The Tantrums- "Money Grabber"

This song, at the moment, is my musical obsession. It's so damn catchy, I keep listening to it on repeat. With a VERY retro sound, it stands out from most music on the radio today.

Enjoy "Money Grabber" by Fitz & The Tantrums!

2/6/11- The Fray- "Heartless"

I had known that the Fray had done a pretty kick-ass cover of Kanye's "Heartless" a while back, but I never knew that they went so far as to make an official music video for it. And it's a damn cool video too. Make sure you look for the Kanye "cameo."

Enjoy "Heartless" as covered by the Fray.

2/5/11- Annie Lennox- Walking on Broken Glass

I'm trying to dig up the link, but a while back there was an article on the Top 10 Music Video Cameos of all time, and this one was near the top. How can it not be? Annie Lennox has her choice of John Malkovich...or Hugh Laurie. Yup. That's right. House is in this music video. Enjoy "Walking on Broken Glass" by Annie Lennox

2/4/11- Whale- "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe"

So, with the announcement yesterday that Beavis & Butthead would be returning to MTV with new episodes, I got to thinking... what music videos are they going to watch this time around? Justin Bieber? Lady Gaga? I shudder at the thought.

So I decided to dig up a video they WOULD watch. "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" by Whale! Enjoy!

Thursday, February 3, 2011

2/3/11- Cher w/ Beavis & Butthead- "I Got You Babe"

With the official announcement of Beavis & Butthead returning to MTV for new episodes, I decided to dig up a Beavis & Butthead Classic. NO, not Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Love Rollercoaster" video. But this one:

Cher. With Beavis & Butthead. Doing "I Got You Babe."

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

2/2/11- Matt And Kim- "Cameras"

Who thought that such an upbeat song from such a happy sounding band would have such a violent music video? Then again, you don't know what to expect from the band that ran around Times Square naked.

For today, enjoy "Cameras" by Matt & Kim

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

2/1/11- Lucas- "Lucas With the Lid Off"

Remember Lucas? The one hit wonder from 1994 or so? His music video at the time was pretty groundbreaking... then he disappeared. He's been successful since, writing and producing songs for a TON of pop artists. Enjoy his one stab at fame. It's Lucas with "Lucas With the Lid Off"
